Travelers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will benefit from more than $40 million in federal funding for rail and airport projects.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recently released $35.9 million to support a 21-mile extension of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Green Line, the northwest/southeast leg of the city's light rail system. The funding, which is part of the 2009 appropriations for DART, will also pay for the construction of a new operating facility for vehicle maintenance and storage, according to U.S. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson's office.
Dallas Love Field will also receive a $4.6 million grant from the USDOT. The grant money will allow Love Field to rehabilitate the runways and purchase new emergency vehicles to replace aging units.
